Physics in the morning, again. I feel lost at times, especially since the professor feels very rushed to get through everything each morning. I am going to be honest and say that I am not enjoying physics very much. I take notes, do all the practice problems, and try my hardest...but...There is no time for questions, and there is also very little time for out of class learning/studying that I would normally do during the school year with a real course. For students who have already had physics, I bet this is a wonderful review, though. We are not expected to master the material; jus
After lunch, we headed to our study skills course to see the results of our assessments that we took a while ago. One of the tests was a reading test that tested vocabulary, comprehension, and reading rate. I scored well on vocabulary, high on comprehension, but very low on rate!! I was shocked to see that my rate was that low. We were instructed to read at our normal pace for about twenty seconds. Afterward, we marked approximately how many words we had read. Even though I finished the entire reading test in the allotted time, my rate was still too slow apparently. Now I know what to improve on!
My favorite assessment result that we got back today was the Myers-Briggs test. It said that I am the type of person to "seek meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions. Want to understand what motivates people and are insightful about others. Conscientious and committed to their firm values. Develop a clear vision about how to serve the common good. Organized and decisive in implementing their vision." It told me I was introverted, which I was surprised to hear actually. I would be interested in taking this type of test again in a few years, just to see how I compare :)
After the program for the day was over, other students and I headed to job shadow at the Sharing Clinic. This clinic is staffed with medical, pharmacy, medical lab science and PA students who work together as a team to provide care for some underprivileged patients. I shadowed a PA student who was also in the SMDEP program years ago (how awesome!!) What I enjoyed seeing was the diversity of the patients, and how an interpreter played a critical role in communication. Even though I technically wasn't shadowing a doctor, this has got to be one of my most favorite shadowing experiences!!! I got to see what it meant to actually serve patients from diverse backgrounds, and see how a students gains confidence with patients.
